This final chapter contextualises the book in terms of the twenty first century. It reviews the disintegration of the political consensus on the welfare state and the out-sourcing of leisure services by the state. In economic terms, the value of leisure reverted from Hobson's ethical judgment to commercial exchange and the transfer of money from the public to the private sector. It also summarises the principal arguments presented in the book and suggests how and to what degree these offer new ways of thinking about leisure as a field of welfare economics. This in turn to leads to a recommendation of John Hobson's organic welfare as presented in his major economics book Work and Wealth in which Hobson argued leisure to be the opportunity of opportunities for a full human life. The conclusion also suggests topics discussed within the book upon which further historical research would be beneficial to a better understanding of the value of leisure in the modern world.
