Chemical Looping Combined with Carbon Capture and Sequestration
摘要
A large amount of pure CO2 can be captured via CLC process with almost no energy penalty. How to deal with the captured CO2 has been an important issue all around the world. Deep saline aquifer geological carbon sequestration (SAGCS) is considered as one of the most promising technology in the near term. It is difficult to experimentally investigate the CO2 plume migration in SAGCS because of the large spatial extent of the order of kilometers and time duration of the order of centuries. In this chapter, computational fluid dynamics technology has been employed to investigate the CO2 fate in two actual large-scale identified deep saline aquifers, namely, Mt. Simon in Illinois and Utsira in Norway. The numerical simulations described are based on the DOE simulator TOUGH2. The simulation studies are beneficial to provide deeper insights for the in situ CO2 migration and trapping mechanisms, as well as the CO2 mitigation and commercialization potential of SAGCS.
