摘要

This chapter describes the CFD-DEM simulations of a riser-based carbon stripper developed by Sun et al. (Ind Eng Chem Res 55:2381–2390, 2016) consisting of a binary particle bed of plastic beads (corresponding to coal) and ilmenite particles. The static pressure in the bed is used to assess the onset of a stable fluidization regime. The flow rates of the plastic beads and ilmenite out of the riser outlet and into the bottom collection tank, respectively, are averaged to determine the particle separation ratio. The results show excellent agreement with the experimental data and establish a credible model for a binary particle bed that can be used to optimize the design and operation of such systems in future work.
