The changing times of day require solutions for creating the right light for the respective visual task in the darkness outdoors. In any case, the quality of a lighting system essentially depends on the luminance distribution in the field of vision. From this, the criteria of illumination level, the lighting distribution including light direction, and shadowing as well as glare limitation can be derived, all of which play a dominant role in lighting. In contrast, the colour properties of light and pulse frequency are not rated as high as in outdoor lighting. In addition, aspects such as “optical guidance”, “lighting design” and environmental protection play a role in urban exterior lighting and must not be underestimated.
