Functionally Single Ventricle

Functional single ventricle physiology encompasses a heterogeneous group of congenital heart lesions all characterized by a single functional ventricle tasked with providing both systemic and pulmonary blood flow. Management in infancy is focused on balancing the systemic and pulmonary blood flow in preparation for additional palliative surgeries culminating in a common final pathway – the Fontan operation.
