Congenital Coronary Artery Anomalies

Coronary artery anomalies represent a small portion of all congenital heart disease. They can occur as isolated anomalies or in association with other types of congenital heart disease. Identifying these anomalies is critical for pediatric cardiologists and cardiovascular surgeons. In congenital heart disease, these anomalies may affect the surgical repair strategies. In patients without other congenital heart disease, these anomalies may be associated with sudden cardiac death or myocardial ischemia. This chapter evaluates different types of coronary anomalies and discusses surgical decision-making and management strategies. We will discuss anomalous aortic origin of the coronary arteries, anomalous origin of the coronary arteries from the pulmonary artery, coronary fistulas, and congenital coronary ostial stenosis or atresia.
