General Planning and Preoperative Assessment

After clinical diagnosis and evaluation of the current situation of the patient’s face, profile, and dentition, the surgeon must decide which treatment procedure will be necessary. Will one-jaw surgery be sufficient to achieve the desired final result, or is it better to perform corrective surgery in both jaws? And if correction in one jaw is sufficient, should the surgery be performed in the upper or lower jaw? The surgical plan, which includes the actual movements of the jaw, provides guidance during surgery and a prediction of the final result. A 2D cephalometric analysis on the lateral cephalogram is performed to predict the sagittal transposition of the bony structures. Three-dimensional analysis is used to prepare for surgery.
