Clinical Assessment
摘要
It is standard that all patients requesting orthognathic treatment are subject to a thorough clinical examination as well as a pertinent history, symptom evaluation, treatment history, and outcome expectations. Included in this should be a TMJ history and examination, being mindful that certain dentofacial deformities can be related to a high risk of obstructive sleep apnea, and that these deformities may be as a result of a pre-existing TMJ disease process. Further screening should optionally be provided to include Stop-Bang scoring and an Epworth sleepiness scale. Assessment of medical comorbidities and nutritional status should also be standard practice.
