Pipeline Repairing

This chapter presents a summary of pipeline repair systems, their characteristics, application procedures, advantages, disadvantages, and limitations. The chapter initially approaches the response time between the identification and the repair of an anomaly detected by an in-line inspection based on the guidance of ASME B31.8 and API RP API 1160. There follows a presentation of the principal types of repair to pipelines, the applications and limitations of each type of repair, with an in-depth discussion on the aspects related to composite repairs. Additionally, certain aspects of safety have been highlighted for consideration in the execution of the repair, together with the minimum criteria for the preparation of the repair’s technical report. Complementing the chapter, an example of a repair design using composite material is presented.
