Sports is a data-rich context in which visual, experimental, and computational mathematics are frequently applied. This chapter summarizes the data-driven sports analytics research included in this handbook section and provides a personal narrative from the coeditors of the section. We articulate three overarching themes: predicting event outcomes, athlete performance, and mental health. In addition, we present visual summaries of the research that map topic frequencies, article and sport connections, and relationships among analytic techniques and visualization methods. The themes and visual summaries enable readers to identify articles of interest.

摘要

Sports is a data-rich context in which visual, experimental, and computational mathematics are frequently applied. This chapter summarizes the data-driven sports analytics research included in this handbook section and provides a personal narrative from the coeditors of the section. We articulate three overarching themes: predicting event outcomes, athlete performance, and mental health. In addition, we present visual summaries of the research that map topic frequencies, article and sport connections, and relationships among analytic techniques and visualization methods. The themes and visual summaries enable readers to identify articles of interest.
