Andalusia

This entry describes the aspects of the economic life during the Andalusian Umayyad state, which ruled over the modern-day Iberian Peninsula, and looks at the development of trade and economic activity in that state. The Andalusian Umayyads are acknowledged for their contributions to the advancement of civilization in a variety of fields, such as art and culture, architecture, and scholarship. It is also feasible to contend that they had extraordinary success in trade and the economy, especially during periods when they appeared to be powerful and dominant in terms of politics and the military. Their economy, however, suffered greatly when they were unable to hold onto power; in other words, their economic success has been primarily attributed to politics rather than the ideas and models they were able to provide for use in trade and economic processes.
