As a medium of exchange, a unit of value, and a repository of value, money is an indispensable instrument in economic transactions for the exchange of products and services. The main emphasis of this article are the functional aspects and overarching definition of money. Diverse perspectives in economics have resulted in varying understandings of the functions of money. In addition to regarding money as an instrument, Islamic economics has established a number of moral principles. To facilitate comprehension of the concept of money in Islam, an examination of the historical context surrounding money and intellectual accumulation is undertaken.
