Kesb
摘要
The concept of “kesb” holds a central place in Islamic teachings, encompassing various aspects of an individual’s religious, ethical, and economic life. Rooted in the Quran and elaborated upon in the Hadith, kesb represents the pursuit of gains that are subject to one’s responsibility and will be rewarded by Allah. While material gains in business and trade are acknowledged, the Quran emphasizes the need for a balanced approach between religious devotion and worldly affairs. Islamic teachings encourage believers to engage in productive work, labor, and economic activities as a means of sustenance and contributing to the welfare of society. Islamic scholars have echoed these teachings, emphasizing the moral and ethical dimensions of economic activities. The majority of scholars interpret the concept of caliphate as an obligation to develop civilization, contribute to societal progress, and build a better future. This perspective aligns with the idea that the desire to earn and improve one’s condition drives individuals to engage in productive work, which, in turn, benefits society as a whole. The concept of kesb in Islamic teachings promotes a holistic approach to life that encompasses both religious devotion and responsible economic activity. It underscores the ethical dimensions of economic conduct, emphasizing the importance of earning a livelihood through honest labor and using wealth as a means to contribute to the welfare of society. This ethical framework aligns with the broader principles of justice, benevolence, and responsible stewardship that are central to Islamic ethics.
