摘要

The development of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI) and their rapid introduction into clinical practice have revolutionized the treatment and outcomes for many cancer patients across a wide spectrum of malignancies. These powerful agents activate T cell function leading to immune-mediated tumor destruction. At the same time, this T cell activation can be associated with immune adverse events (irAE) in virtually any organ system in the body. The factors associated with tumor response, as well as toxicity of ICI for individual patients are not well understood. In this chapter, the common clinical irAE are reviewed for the major organ systems with discussion of potential mechanisms, along with recommendations for management. By early recognition and treatment of immune adverse events, patients will be able to benefit more fully from immune checkpoint agents in the current era of immuno-oncology.
