Marine-derived polymers have gained significant attention in the field of drug delivery systems due to their unique properties and biocompatibility. These polymers, sourced from marine organisms such as algae, seaweed, and marine bacteria, offer promising opportunities for the development of advanced drug delivery platforms. Marine-derived polymers exhibit features like biodegradability, low toxicity, and versatility, making them suitable candidates for delivering various therapeutic agents. Researchers have explored the use of marine polymers in designing drug carriers, nanoparticles, hydrogels, and other delivery systems. These systems leverage the inherent characteristics of marine-derived polymers to enhance drug stability, bioavailability, and targeted delivery. As a result, marine-derived polymers hold great potential in addressing challenges associated with conventional drug delivery, offering innovative solutions for improved therapeutic outcomes. In this section, it has been reviewed alginate, chitosan, carrageenan, hyaluronic acid, and chondroitin sulfate as the primary marine-derived materials currently employed or under consideration in the pharmaceutical industry.
