Spine Trauma

Pediatric spine trauma is relatively uncommon. Pediatric spine injury patterns differ from those in adults, due to anatomic and biomechanical differences as briefly discussed below. In this chapter, we will also review the pathophysiology, epidemiology, and studies evaluating clinical risk factors of accidental pediatric spine trauma. We will present evidence-based imaging guidelines for the management of these cases, including an algorithm for the clearance of the cervical spine.
