摘要

Children and adults with Down syndrome (DS) have risk for multiple characteristics and co-occurring conditions that predispose them to aerodigestive concerns such as chronic pulmonary disease, airways obstruction, disordered sleep, gastrointestinal concerns, and difficulties with feeding, swallowing, growth, and nutrition. This chapter covers the unique characteristics of DS that impact aerodigestive health along with recommendations for evaluation and management. A special emphasis is placed on feeding and swallowing difficulties, which can have significant impacts on health, development, and quality of life. Case studies illustrating aerodigestive conditions and their management in patients with DS are presented at the end of the chapter.
