Carbon-Based Nanoplatforms: Types and Applications in Neurological Disorders

摘要

Nanoparticles (NPs) are known to have multiple uses, especially in medicine, due to their different properties. Carbon-based nanoparticles such as carbon nanotubes (CNTs), fullerenes, and graphene dots (QDs) can be manufactured by different methods such as the arc discharge method and the chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method, and they have shown promising results in drug development and drug delivery. They are being used in potential treatments of neurodegenerative diseases and cancers, including brain cancer, due to their ability to cross the blood–brain barrier. But they have their known toxicities, which have been studied but need constant research and understanding to better help in treatment modalities. Carbon-based nanoplatforms appear to have substantial potential to play a significant role in developing novel therapeutic and imaging agents that will contribute to future advances in personalized medicine and targeted therapy.
