Applications of Nanotechnology to Diseases of the Spine
摘要
Spine problems are the number one cause of disability in the United States. Current technologies to repair the spine from damage due to wear and tear, tumors, infections, and other causes have significant room for improvement. Nanotechnology has already been shown to improve the performance of clinically used implants inserted into spinal bones and joints. Further development of nanotechnology in the experimental stage promises even more dramatic advancements. In this chapter, we will review some of the latest nanotechnology applications for treating structural spine disorders, such as disc replacement and bone scaffold materials.
