Hildegard of Bingen (1098–1179), a Benedictine nun, superior (magistra), and foundress spent her life immersed in the Scriptures. Her Homilies on the Gospels (Expositiones euangeliorum), a summa of theology, expound 27 gospel pericopes that correspond to standard readings for the liturgical year.
