Ovarian Cancer Management in Developing Countries
摘要
Ovarian cancer is a significant healthcare challenge in developing countries, where limited resources and healthcare infrastructure often result in late-stage diagnoses and suboptimal outcomes. This chapter provides a comprehensive overview of the prevalence, morbidity, and mortality of ovarian cancer in developing countries, as well as the clinical, economic, and humanistic burdens associated with the disease. It also examines the causes and risk factors, complications, clinical presentation, diagnosis, and management of ovarian cancer in resource-constrained settings. Despite these challenges, there have been noteworthy achievements in the management of ovarian cancer in developing countries, including advances in early detection, surgical techniques, and the integration of palliative care. Telemedicine and online resources are also emerging as valuable tools to enhance patient care and support healthcare providers. Additionally, guidelines, resources, and educational materials are increasingly available to aid in the management of ovarian cancer in these regions. The chapter concludes with a set of recommendations aimed at addressing the unique challenges of ovarian cancer care in developing countries. These recommendations encompass early detection efforts, healthcare infrastructure strengthening, multidisciplinary care, access to targeted therapies, telemedicine utilization, support for caregivers and survivors, and research collaboration. They also emphasize the importance of cultural sensitivity, patient empowerment, and the integration of survivorship care. By implementing these recommendations and fostering collaborations among governments, healthcare providers, NGOs, and international organizations, developing countries can make significant strides in improving the diagnosis, treatment, and overall quality of life for ovarian cancer patients.
