Prostate cancer is a global health concern, and its management in developing countries presents unique challenges. This chapter provides an overview of the achievements, challenges, and recommendations for the management of prostate cancer in these regions. In recent years, developing countries have made notable strides in prostate cancer management. Public awareness campaigns have promoted early detection through PSA testing and digital rectal examinations. Improved access to diagnostic tools, such as transrectal ultrasound and biopsies, has enhanced the accuracy of diagnoses. Treatment options have diversified, with the adoption of advanced surgical techniques, radiation therapies, and wider access to medications. Psychosocial support initiatives have emerged to address the emotional impact of the disease. Despite these achievements, challenges persist. Late-stage diagnoses are common due to limited access to healthcare services and late presentation. Economic barriers hinder treatment access, and cultural stigma can discourage healthcare-seeking behavior. Inadequate healthcare infrastructure, a shortage of trained professionals, and disparities in access to advanced treatments further compound the challenges. To overcome these obstacles, a multifaceted approach is essential. Recommendations include promoting awareness, expanding telemedicine services, enhancing healthcare infrastructure, ensuring access to affordable medications, and supporting palliative care. Genetic counseling, community outreach, and nutritional counseling can reduce risk factors. Collaboration with international organizations and patient advocacy groups can amplify efforts. Furthermore, patient navigation services, cultural sensitivity, and a focus on patient-reported outcomes are integral to comprehensive care. In conclusion, managing prostate cancer in developing countries requires a comprehensive and culturally sensitive approach. By implementing these recommendations, developing nations can improve prevention, early detection, and treatment outcomes for prostate cancer, ultimately reducing its burden.
