Endocarditis, a potentially life-threatening infection of the heart’s inner lining and valves, poses significant challenges in developing countries. This chapter explores the prevalence, management, and challenges of endocarditis in these resource-constrained settings, with a focus on clinical, economic, and humanistic aspects. In developing countries, late diagnosis remains a major hurdle due to limited healthcare access and awareness. Late diagnosis can lead to more severe cases and complications, including heart failure and embolic events. Moreover, the economic burden of endocarditis is exacerbated by high treatment costs and a lack of health insurance coverage for many individuals. Effective management necessitates a multifaceted approach. Recommendations include raising public awareness through educational campaigns, improving access to diagnostic tools such as echocardiography and blood cultures, and developing locally adapted guidelines. Additionally, promoting antibiotic stewardship, infection control measures, and surgical expertise is crucial. Telemedicine and online resources play an increasingly vital role in connecting healthcare providers in remote areas with experts and knowledge-sharing platforms. Collaborations with international organizations and NGOs can provide resources, expertise, and funding to aid in the development and dissemination of guidelines and educational materials. Patient support and counseling are essential components of endocarditis management, considering the psychosocial impact of the condition. Preventive measures, such as vaccination and oral hygiene promotion, can mitigate the risk of endocarditis. Continued research, patient registries, and interdisciplinary teams are pivotal in improving patient outcomes and enhancing the understanding of endocarditis in developing countries.
