Pharmacy Education, Practice, and Research in Iraq

Pharmacy is the branch of health sciences that relates to the discovery, formulation, dispensing, and safe disposal of medicinal products. In Iraq, pharmacy profession is largely linked to providing safe and effective medicine to the patients and community. Pharmacists are the easiest healthcare providers approached by the public, and thus they overtake big responsibilities in delivering quality healthcare services to the community. This chapter presents an overview of pharmacy education preparing pharmacist for their sacred role. The format of pharmacy practice, job opportunities, and regulations governing pharmacy profession are discussed. Major areas of pharmacy-related research are highlighted. Lastly, major challenges in different aspects of pharmacy that Iraq is facing and recommendations to address these challenges are also discussed.
