Epidemiology and Burden of Respiratory Diseases in Developing Countries
摘要
Respiratory diseases pose a significant burden in developing countries, with high prevalence rates of acute respiratory infections, COPD, asthma, tuberculosis, and occupational respiratory diseases. This burden extends beyond epidemiology, encompassing clinical, economic, and humanistic dimensions. The clinical burden is characterized by disease severity, limited diagnostic resources, and restricted treatment options. Economic burden includes healthcare costs and loss of productivity, while the humanistic burden involves impaired quality of life, stigma, limited opportunities, and emotional distress. To address these burdens, comprehensive strategies are needed. Recommendations include strengthening healthcare systems, enhancing preventive measures, improving access to healthcare and medications, promoting clean cooking technologies, strengthening occupational health and safety, addressing social determinants of health, implementing patient-centered care, fostering collaborations, and increasing research and innovation. Community engagement, health literacy, research on local contexts, and partnerships are vital. Monitoring, evaluation, advocacy, and sustainable development approaches are crucial for effective interventions. Implementing these recommendations can alleviate the burden of respiratory diseases and improve respiratory health outcomes.
