Glomerulonephritis Management in Developing Countries

  • Yaser Mohammed Al-Worafi

摘要

Glomerulonephritis (GN) is a complex and challenging kidney disorder that presents unique management hurdles in developing countries. This chapter provides an overview of the prevalence, morbidity, and mortality of GN in these regions, highlighting the clinical, economic, and humanistic burden it imposes. It also explores the causes and risk factors contributing to GN and discusses its complications, clinical presentation, and diagnostic methods. The second part of the chapter delves into the goals and desired outcomes of GN therapy, both pharmacological and nonpharmacological, emphasizing the importance of monitoring parameters and evaluation of therapeutic outcomes. Strategies for addressing modifiable risk factors and complications are also outlined. Patient education and counseling play a pivotal role in empowering individuals affected by GN. The management of GN in developing countries has seen notable achievements, such as improved diagnostics, increased access to medications, and enhanced awareness. However, substantial challenges persist, including limited healthcare infrastructure, financial barriers, late presentations, and a comorbidity burden exacerbated by infectious and noncommunicable diseases. To address these challenges, comprehensive recommendations are provided, spanning healthcare infrastructure strengthening, clinical guideline development, medication access assurance, awareness campaigns, patient support, research initiatives, government involvement, prevention strategies, and international collaboration. These recommendations aim to improve early detection, enhance treatment outcomes, and alleviate the burden of GN. In conclusion, managing GN in developing countries necessitates a multifaceted approach that requires the collective efforts of governments, healthcare providers, international organizations, and local communities. By implementing the recommended strategies and prioritizing innovation, research, and global collaboration, developing countries can make significant strides in GN management. The ultimate objective is to provide equitable access to high-quality care, empower patients and communities, and reduce the impact of GN on healthcare systems and societies.
