The pharmaceutical industry in developing countries is crucial for improving healthcare outcomes and providing access to essential medications. This chapter explores the history, availability, facilitators, barriers, challenges, and recommendations for best practices in the pharmaceutical industry in developing countries. The history of the industry in these countries highlights the need for self-sufficiency and local manufacturing capabilities. Availability of medications remains a challenge, necessitating investments in research, development, and manufacturing. Facilitators of growth include supportive policies, collaborations, and partnerships. However, barriers such as limited resources, infrastructure constraints, and affordability issues persist. The industry faces challenges related to regulatory processes, research capacity, and access to funding. To promote best practices, recommendations include strengthening regulatory frameworks, enhancing research and development, building a skilled workforce, fostering collaborations, and improving access to funding.
