Substance Abuse in Developing Countries: Tobacco

  • Yaser Mohammed Al-Worafi

摘要

Substance abuse, specifically tobacco use, is a significant public health concern in developing countries. The prevalence of tobacco use in these regions is influenced by socioeconomic, cultural, and healthcare factors. This chapter discussed the challenges and recommendations for addressing substance abuse in developing countries, focusing on tobacco use. The challenges include limited resources, cultural norms, marketing tactics by the tobacco industry, and a dual burden of communicable and noncommunicable diseases. Recommendations include strengthening tobacco control policies, increasing awareness and education, enhancing healthcare systems, engaging communities, and conducting research and evaluation. Implementing these strategies can contribute to reducing tobacco use and improving public health outcomes in developing countries.
