Technology for Health: Overview

Health technology has the potential to revolutionize health care in developing countries by improving access, enhancing quality, and enhancing health outcomes. This chapter discusses the facilitators and barriers of health technology in developing countries, highlights achievements in this field, and discusses the challenges that need to be addressed. Facilitators include increasing connectivity, mobile phone penetration, cost-effective solutions, and local innovation. However, limited resources, financial constraints, the digital divide, and technical expertise gaps act as barriers. Despite challenges, health technology has achieved significant milestones, including increased access to health care, improved disease surveillance, and advancements in maternal and child health. Ensuring quality, sustainability, and equity remains critical. Recommendations include strengthening infrastructure, capacity building, regulatory frameworks, partnerships, and user-centered design. Collaboration among stakeholders is vital. Data security, interoperability, and digital literacy must be addressed. By embracing these recommendations, developing countries can harness the full potential of health technology and improve health care for their populations.
