Therapeutic Drug Monitoring in Developing Countries

  • Yaser Mohammed Al-Worafi

摘要

Therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) is an essential practice in optimizing drug therapy by measuring and evaluating drug concentrations in patients’ bloodstream. This chapter focuses on the context of TDM in developing countries, discussing achievements, quality considerations, challenges, and recommendations. TDM has demonstrated significant achievements in improving treatment outcomes, individualizing therapy, and enhancing medication adherence. However, challenges related to limited resources, access, and data management need to be addressed. To overcome these challenges, it is recommended to strengthen infrastructure, tailor TDM strategies, focus on specific disease areas, promote collaborations, invest in research and capacity building, and integrate TDM into primary healthcare. Public awareness campaigns, policy support, and collaborations with international organizations can further enhance TDM services. Implementing these recommendations will contribute to improved patient care and optimized drug therapy in developing countries.
