Health Literacy: Challenges and Recommendations

  • Yaser Mohammed Al-Worafi

摘要

Health literacy is a critical component of individual empowerment and effective healthcare utilization. However, developing countries face unique challenges in achieving adequate health literacy levels. This chapter provides an overview of the challenges associated with health literacy in developing countries, including limited access to education, cultural and linguistic diversity, inadequate healthcare infrastructure, and socioeconomic disparities. It presents a range of recommendations to address these challenges, including promoting education and literacy programs, fostering culturally sensitive health communication, strengthening healthcare infrastructure, engaging community-based interventions, utilizing digital health technologies, addressing social determinants of health, fostering collaboration, monitoring and evaluating interventions, and empowering marginalized populations. These recommendations emphasize the importance of a comprehensive, context-specific approach that involves collaboration among stakeholders. By implementing these recommendations, developing countries can improve health literacy levels, enhance health outcomes, and reduce health disparities.
