Health Literacy: Overview

  • Yaser Mohammed Al-Worafi

摘要

Health literacy plays a crucial role in enabling individuals to access, understand, and use health information to make informed decisions about their health. This is particularly significant in developing countries where low health literacy levels contribute to disparities in healthcare access and outcomes. This chapter explores the challenges faced by developing countries in addressing health literacy, including limited educational opportunities, language barriers, socioeconomic inequalities, and limited access to reliable health information. It highlights the importance of clear communication, health education programs, digital health literacy, community engagement, and collaborative efforts in improving health literacy. Recommendations include integrating health literacy into education systems, leveraging mobile health technologies, empowering community health workers, and promoting culturally sensitive approaches. By implementing these strategies, developing countries can enhance health literacy, reduce disparities, and improve overall population health.
