Teaching Nursing Programs During Pandemic

Teaching nursing programs during pandemics in developing countries poses numerous challenges and opportunities. This chapter explores these challenges and provides a comprehensive set of recommendations to strengthen nursing education systems. Challenges include digital divides, inadequate infrastructure, limited clinical placements, faculty preparedness, mental health concerns, regulatory barriers, and more. However, the resilience and adaptability of nursing education in the face of these challenges have led to numerous achievements, such as rapid transitions to online learning, innovative pedagogical approaches, and increased emphasis on public health. Recommendations encompass a wide range of strategies, from digital inclusion and faculty development to community engagement, mental health support, and government investment. Other recommendations include interprofessional education, global health experiences, and sustainability education. Long-term planning, international collaboration, and the dissemination of nursing research findings are also crucial. By embracing these recommendations, developing countries can build resilient nursing education systems that prepare nurses to excel during pandemics and other healthcare crises, ultimately improving healthcare outcomes and promoting equitable access to quality care.
