Teaching Dentistry Programs During Pandemic

  • Yaser Mohammed Al-Worafi

摘要

The COVID-19 pandemic presented significant challenges to teaching dentistry programs in developing countries, affecting both educators and students. This chapter explores the achievements, challenges, and recommendations for dental education during the pandemic. Notable achievements include the swift transition to online learning, resourceful technology adoption, and increased community engagement. However, challenges such as the digital divide, clinical training disruptions, assessment issues, and mental health concerns emerged. To address these challenges, recommendations include investments in digital infrastructure, faculty development, diversified assessment methods, tele-dentistry integration, and mental health support. Additionally, localized solutions, community engagement, and sustainable practices are emphasized, alongside the need for global collaboration and the development of emergency response plans. These recommendations collectively offer a roadmap for strengthening dental education systems, enhancing preparedness for future crises, and improving the overall quality of dental care and education in developing nations.
