摘要

Diarrhea remains a significant public health challenge in developing countries, exerting a heavy toll on morbidity, mortality, and healthcare systems. This chapter explores the prevalence, morbidity, and mortality of diarrhea in these regions; elucidates its clinical, economic, and humanistic burden; and delves into the causes, risk factors, complications, clinical presentation, and diagnosis of diarrhea. Additionally, it outlines the goals of therapy, desired outcomes, and strategies for both non-pharmacological and pharmacological therapies. Monitoring parameters and evaluation of therapeutic outcomes, as well as the critical aspects of addressing modifiable causes and risk factors and treating complications, are also examined. Moreover, the importance of patient education and counseling as an integral part of diarrhea management is emphasized. Furthermore, the chapter explores the online management of diarrhea in developing countries, highlighting achievements and challenges. Recommendations are presented to enhance online resources, guidelines, and educational materials to better serve these regions. The second part of this chapter presents a set of recommendations to improve the prevention, assessment and diagnosis, management, and care of diarrhea in developing countries. These recommendations target healthcare professionals, students, and researchers, outlining strategies to enhance their roles in addressing this global health concern. In conclusion, by implementing these recommendations and fostering collaboration among diverse stakeholders, we can work toward reducing the burden of diarrhea in developing countries. This multifaceted approach emphasizes the importance of prevention, early intervention, capacity building, and research in achieving sustainable improvements in public health.
