Technology in Dentistry Education in Developing Countries

  • Yaser Mohammed Al-Worafi

摘要

Technology has emerged as a transformative force in dentistry education, offering unique opportunities and challenges, particularly in developing countries. This chapter highlights the achievements, challenges, and recommendations for effectively integrating technology into dentistry education in such contexts. Key achievements include improved access to educational resources, enhanced learning experiences through e-learning initiatives and virtual simulations, and the growth of telemedicine and teledentistry. Developing countries have also demonstrated innovation in adapting low-cost technology solutions and leveraging global partnerships. However, notable challenges include limited access to technology, financial constraints, inadequate infrastructure, and faculty training needs. Bridging the digital divide, ensuring content localization, and addressing security concerns are crucial. Recommendations encompass infrastructure development, faculty development programs, content localization, and partnerships. Ensuring equitable access, addressing security concerns, and supporting research and innovation are imperative. By embracing these recommendations, dental institutions in developing countries can harness technology’s potential to improve dental education, expand access to quality oral healthcare, and contribute to better overall oral health.
