Faculty Members/Lecturer’s Promotion in Public Health Schools in Developing Countries
摘要
Promotion of faculty members in public health schools in developing countries is a critical process that impacts the quality of public health education and research. While these institutions face numerous challenges, including limited resources, gender disparities, and bureaucratic hurdles, there are clear pathways to success. This chapter explores the importance of faculty promotion, the academic ranks in public health schools, the criteria and requirements for promotion, and the challenges and recommendations for fostering faculty growth. Achievements in promoting faculty include capacity building, local expertise, research, and policy influence. However, challenges such as inadequate infrastructure, gender disparities, and limited access to resources persist. Recommendations encompass investments in resources, gender equity initiatives, streamlined processes, and international collaboration. Additionally, these institutions should advocate for funding, research ethics, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Celebrating diversity, promoting community engagement, and expanding open access initiatives are essential for faculty advancement. These recommendations collectively pave the way for robust faculty promotion in public health schools, enabling these institutions to contribute effectively to public health improvement and address the unique challenges faced by developing countries.
