Faculty Members/Lecturer’s Promotion in Pharmacy Schools in Developing Countries

Faculty members and lecturers in pharmacy schools in developing countries face a multitude of challenges and opportunities in their quest for promotion and career advancement. This chapter explores the unique achievements and challenges they encounter, highlighting their contributions to education, research, and healthcare. Achievements include building capacity, conducting impactful research, fostering collaborations, advocating for policy changes, and bridging the gap between theory and practice. Challenges encompass resource limitations, heavy teaching loads, gender disparities, inadequate mentorship, and more. To support these dedicated educators and researchers, recommendations are provided, including strengthening institutional support, streamlining promotion processes, advocating for research funding, and recognizing nontraditional achievements. Additional suggestions encompass promoting interdisciplinary research, improving access to resources, and fostering international collaborations. By implementing these recommendations, institutions and governments can empower faculty members to excel, further enhancing pharmacy education, research, and healthcare in developing countries. Despite the challenges, faculty members and lecturers continue to demonstrate resilience, creativity, and a profound commitment to their fields, driving progress and making a lasting impact on healthcare systems and communities.
