  • Yaser Mohammed Al-Worafi

摘要

Quality assurance, quality enhancement, and accreditation are pivotal components of medical education, holding the key to shaping the future of healthcare in developing countries. This chapter delves into the historical context, rationale, importance, and benefits of these elements within the realms of medicine education, specifically focusing on developing nations. It highlights the achievements and facilitators that have propelled the progress of quality assurance and accreditation in these countries, emphasizing improved educational standards, global recognition, patient-centered education, research advancements, and addressing healthcare disparities. These achievements have been facilitated by international collaborations, faculty development, technology integration, and government support, among others. Despite significant strides, there exist numerous challenges and barriers that hinder the full realization of quality assurance and accreditation in medical education. These include resource constraints, political interference, limited access to educational resources, faculty development, language barriers, and alignment with local healthcare needs, among others. Addressing these challenges demands a comprehensive approach involving governments, institutions, international organizations, and the healthcare community. To further strengthen quality assurance, quality enhancement, and accreditation, this chapter provides a set of comprehensive recommendations. These encompass government commitment to funding and regulatory support, international collaboration, faculty development, infrastructure improvement, curriculum alignment, accreditation streamlining, community engagement, student support services, data collection, and advocacy efforts. Additionally, it suggests strategies such as regional collaboration, flexible accreditation models, public-private partnerships, and telemedicine integration. Furthermore, this chapter emphasizes the importance of continuous assessment of accreditation standards, research funding, stakeholder engagement, transparency, accountability, crisis preparedness, and resilience. By implementing these recommendations, developing countries can advance the quality of medical education, address healthcare challenges, and contribute to better healthcare outcomes for their populations.
