Drug–Drug Interaction: Enzyme Inhibition

In the 1990s, some drugs caused life-threatening adverse effects when combined with other medications. This led to the development of in vitro technologies to study drug interactions with specific human P450 enzymes. These advancements, along with guidelines from the US FDA and European agencies, made evaluating in vitro drug interactions and predicting in vivo drug-drug interactions an essential part of drug development.
