Metabolic and Endocrinological Aspects of Gut Microbiota
摘要
The origins of humanity are fundamentally intertwined with the microbial world, which shapes multiple aspects of human existence. The signature of the gut microbiota is evident across various elements of human biology and physiological processes. A mutually beneficial and balanced interaction between the host and its gut microbiota is crucial for maintaining both intestinal and systemic health. Alterations in the composition and function of the gut microbiota, often driven by an unhealthy lifestyle, can significantly influence physiological processes leading to an increased prevalence of chronic metabolic disorders, including obesity, liver disease, type 2 diabetes mellitus, cardiometabolic diseases, and premature mortality. Employing gut microbiota and its microbial metabolites as biomarkers for diagnosis and therapeutic targets offers promising strategies for personalized treatments to improve human health.
