This manuscript offers a detailed review of the association between pulmonary embolism and disseminated intravascular coagulation. Included is a brief discussion about the coagulation cascade and hypercoagulability with a special emphasis on the similarities and difference between prothrombotic states and pro-pro-fibrinolytic states. We offer reasonable speculations on how variations in fibrinogen levels and structure contribute to pulmonary embolism while individuals are consuming the fibrinogen. We also discuss the evidence and pathophysiology associated with COVID-19 infections and the pathological findings that are particular to patients with DIC and pulmonary embolus. Finally, we offer a brief case study and methods of patient evaluation.

摘要
