Entrepreneurship demands an optimistic perspective, essential skills, and specific attributes. On a global scale, entrepreneurship is widely acknowledged as a profession, a pursuit driven by passion, and a significant contributor to job creation. In India, the availability of occupational opportunities is often influenced by caste, leading to obstacles for Dalits, in their pursuit of entrepreneurial ventures. The entrepreneurial landscape in India is predominantly controlled by certain caste groups, creating difficulties for Dalits, who are marginalized by the caste system, to engage in business activities. However, first-generation Dalit entrepreneurs encounter significant hurdles, facing structural and systemic barriers throughout their entrepreneurial journey. There are states that offer favorable conditions for promoting Dalit entrepreneurship. Tamil Nadu has emerged as a leader in fostering Dalit participation in entrepreneurship. Nonetheless, obstacles in accessing entrepreneurial schemes and services persist in the region. Studies have been done on systematic and structural barriers that hinder Dalits from engaging in entrepreneurship, but none have critically analyzed the entrepreneurial ecosystem by looking at how Tamil Nadu State government has created an inclusive environment that encourages Dalits’ to engage in entrepreneurial endeavors. This article provides a critical analysis of the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Tamil Nadu, focusing on how it supports Dalit entrepreneurs. It does this by looking at the trends of mobility and Dalit participation in entrepreneurship in the state. By using content analysis method, relevant information has been gathered from secondary data sources. Despite these formidable challenges, there has been a noticeable rise in Dalit involvement in entrepreneurship, which can be attributed to factors like globalization, supportive government policies, higher educational achievements, and a growing desire for entrepreneurship among Dalits. Furthermore, the article delineates several strategies and interventions based on data analysis, which are intended to promote an inclusive entrepreneurship ecosystem that supports the growth of Dalit entrepreneurship in Tamil Nadu.
