The 15 Principles of Social Distancing Campaigns During COVID–19
摘要
This chapter identifies and synthesizes 15 key principles of social distancing campaigns implemented by governments worldwide, providing a novel conceptual framework that extends existing literature on crisis communication and public health interventions. Derived from a comprehensive analysis of strategies since 2020, these principles illuminate how governments can guide population behavior during persistent risks, including pandemics, while maintaining public trust and compliance. Three core messages—encouraging individual and societal infection control, fostering confidence in government directives, and promoting engagement with scientific updates—are emphasized. The chapter contributes to scholarship by linking each principle to concrete social outcomes, such as countering misinformation, enhancing equity in communication reach, and fostering collective adherence, offering both theoretical insights and practical guidance. By highlighting strategic communication, transparency, and collaborative messaging, this study demonstrates how well-designed campaigns can improve crisis response effectiveness. Ultimately, it provides a blueprint for public health authorities to strengthen societal resilience, reduce fear, and ensure informed, unified public responses during emergencies, with implications for future crises beyond COVID-19.
