This chapter examines social mobility of native and immigrant children in several European countries, addressing the importance of parental background on the opportunities and challenges faced by their children, and seeks to understand the factors that influence educational and occupational mobility. Using data from the European Longitudinal Survey of Living Conditions 2019, we employ transition matrices to analyze the intergenerational transmission of educational and occupational status. In addition, we estimate ordinal logistic models to unveil the impact on mobility of individual and family factors. The findings suggest that immigrants often face barriers and limitations in educational and occupational mobility, reflecting specific disadvantages in the labor market and in education. This study sheds light on the complexities of social mobility in an increasingly diverse continent, and the results help to understand the dynamics of social mobility in order to create effective and sensitive integration policies for diverse groups in Europe.

摘要
