Impact of Climate Change on Water and Sanitation
摘要
Climate change is now a pressing issue at the global level, which can be defined as significant variations in average weather conditions. In other words, it is a long-term variation in average temperature and weather patterns. Climate change is affecting human lives in every way; however, this paper primarily discusses its impact on water and sanitation. Although access to basic sanitation facilities is considered one of the basic human rights of human beings, a large number of people in the world still lack access to them. The climate change adversely affects human life; in other words, people around the world are adversely affect by climate change through water and sanitation. The frequency of water-related disaster has increases, and the flooding has impacted the solid waste disposal system. Heavy rains and flooding make pit latrines, and septic systems become nonfunctional, which leads to forced open defecation. Such events consequently effect the collection and transportation of fecal sludge especially in informal and densely populated urban areas. Thus, the paper will discuss in detail the concept and definition of climate change in general and its effect on water and sanitation in particular. The paper also tries to locate the rationale discussion of gray literature into the dimensions of climate change. It further tries to pinpoint the water in general and sanitation in particular in the debate of climate policy through the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC). Furthermore, the paper discusses in details the health issues that are related with inadequate sanitation services. At last, the paper concludes with a measure to curb the climate policy and to reduce the gap in sanitation in the discourse of climate policy.
