Fourth Industrial Revolution Meaning to Disadvantaged Communities
摘要
The digital revolution is said to be at the heart of the internet’s connection and transmission dimensions, as well as the myriad digital media techniques and infrastructure that have fully matured around the world. Technology is thought to usher in change and new methods of learning. As a result, technology must be attentive not just to the skills and desires of target groups but also to their sociocultural peculiarities. However, most communities have not fully embraced technology, resulting in a digital gap. The digital divide alludes to the inequality in access to and usage of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in society. The main source of concern is the likelihood of a physical-digital divide. As a result, the capacity to access and use internet services is the most pressing issue with a spatial digital divide. However, due to the previous administration’s socioeconomic inequalities, economically disadvantaged students were left behind. Furthermore, the quality of the period’s learners is called into question, as throughput rate difficulties appear to misrepresent reality. It is important to be part of the revolution moving forward to lessen the persistent inequality in communities. Thus, the overall conclusion is that those who are already advantaged are more possibly to benefit from 4IR opportunities whereas more disadvantaged individuals are less likely to benefit. The chapter focused on the autoethnography of the authors with knowledge from rural communities in Namibia, South Africa, and Zimbabwe where they have lived.
