Juvenile Delinquency

Juvenile delinquency is a serious social problem worldwide in today’s societies and has persisted in the world for many centuries with negative consequences for individuals, family, and society. Regarding the conceptual aspects, juvenile delinquency is defined by focusing on the following issues: deviance versus delinquency, what it is to be young, their responsibility before the legislation, the extent of what is designated as criminal behavior, the specific forms of juvenile delinquency and its typology, and highlighting the aspects that enhance delinquent activities and their persistence throughout the different stages of development (activation, aggravation, or withdrawal). It will be some prevalence data in different countries, the growing awareness in the area of juvenile delinquency, and the increased number of scientific research regarding the risk and protective factors. Thus, it is intended to explore the prevention and intervention strategies applied to the delinquency, namely, prevention (e.g., strategies based on skills development, interventions at family and school levels) and intervention approaches. It is highlighting the importance of early intervention to prevent and reduce the occurrence of delinquent behavior.
