Achieving SDG6 requires sustainable Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM) in climate-vulnerable areas of Bangladesh. This study was conducted in the newly formed char lands of Noakhali (Meghna basin) and salinity-affected Khulna district (Ganges basin) of Bangladesh through participatory and multidisciplinary data collection and analysis methods to reveal gaps and understand effective, sustainable IWRM. The study finds that a community-based water management mechanism is a sustainable IWRM mechanism in climate-vulnerable areas. Instead, no follow-up and maintenance mechanisms were found for better IWRM. Reactivation and proper management of these community-based IWRMs will be sustainable options for IWRMs in climate-vulnerable coastal areas to ensure freshwater availability for drinking, irrigation, and domestic purposes.
