This chapter investigates the importance of incorporating gender considerations into Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA) strategies for climate change mitigation. It aims to clarify how gender-related factors impact the efficacy and results of EbA projects. The study utilized a thorough review process, examining peer-reviewed articles, gray literature, and pertinent reports from international and regional organizations. The investigation covered research published between 2000 and 2023 that explored gender-aware EbA methods, with an emphasis on case studies from various geographical settings. Following the application of inclusion and exclusion criteria, 42 studies were selected for thorough examination. The findings reveal that gender disparities significantly influence access to and management of natural resources, involvement in decision-making processes, and the advantages gained from EbA interventions. Women, especially those in disadvantaged communities, face particular obstacles in EbA due to societal and economic inequalities; nevertheless, they also offer valuable insights and techniques for climate adaptation. The chapter highlights that incorporating gender considerations into EbA programs results in more equitable and long-lasting outcomes, thereby bolstering community resilience. To conclude, gender-aware EbA approaches are crucial for enhancing the adaptive capacity of communities susceptible to climate change. The suggestions stress the importance of increased female participation in EbA planning and implementation, alongside skill-development initiatives to strengthen their roles in environmental governance. The chapter urges policymakers to prioritize gender-responsive adaptation strategies to ensure fair distribution of benefits and enhance overall resilience to climate change impacts.
